Hello, I’m Josiah…
“…and I’m a Product Manager.”
When I tell people what I do, I’m often met with blank stares or uncertain head nods. The reality is, most people don’t know what a Product Manager does. That’s okay, because some companies don’t, either! Here’s my definition:
(prod–uh kt man-i-jer)
The user advocate inside an organization.
Sure, there’s a lot more to it than that. Product Managers serve numerous roles (and ideally everyone in an organization looking out for the user). But if a Product Manager is not first and foremost focused on the needs and desires of his/her users, then they are failing at their main purpose. I go to work everyday with intention of making my users’ lives better by delivering great software early and often.
My wife and I moved to Denver from Northeast Kansas in 2013 to pursue a career in software. When I’m not rummaging through release notes or API documentation (I have a very patient wife), I’m your average Coloradan: snowboarder, hiker, and craft beer enthusiast. I spend as much time outside as possible, but still appreciate time spent curled up on the couch with popcorn and Netflix.
Since moving to Colorado, my wife and I welcomed an insanely smart, beautiful, and ever entertaining wildflower of a daughter into the world. Before her birth, we hung a Shakespeare quote over her crib-to-be:
Though she be but little, she is fierce!
Neither of us could have predicted the accuracy at the time.
